Those of you who are interested in seeing OmniFocus but not
yet in the
beta program might want to check out <a
href="http://blog.omnigroup.com/2007/08/20/e
than-schoonover-joins-omni-omnifocus-sneaky-peek-mailing-lis
t-caught-up/">this</a>,
which implies that simply joining the mailing list for the
beta
program will get you a download link less than 24 hours
later. (It
also talks about why it isn't yet an open beta, for those of
you
wondering that...)

I've been on the list for some time and I've not gotten an
invite yet.

Today I got an invite to "join us on the bleeding edge
of our
development process." In other words, this is not for
the faint
hearted. And the implication for the time frame (mentioned
above) for
getting an invite was a bit off.

I haven't tried it yet, but from what I hear, 1st
impressions are not
impressive to many folks. I'd assume this doesn't matter too
much at
this stage, as we (Mac Users) all know the final interface
can make or
break the total experience.

I haven't been asked (yet) to agree to a NDA. If I try it,
I'll post
my impressions if I can.

You won't be asked to sign an NDA - you can blog about it (I
asked
when I first received my invite). I've been using OF as my
primary GTD
system since June (I started testing in May). It's gone thru
a lot of
change - it's alpha software - and I back up automatically
each day.
It's the GTD solution that I've looked for and I'll buy it
as soon as
it's available.

And the support is outstanding. I can't say enough about the
Omni
team. So enjoy.

Something that I've been aching to know about this
program.... How
will OF appeal or work with those of us plagued with PCs
during the
day (work) and glorious Macs the rest of the time?

I have yet to find a desktop-oriented solution that caters
to people
who don't have the absolute luxury of working on the Mac OS
24/7. I
don't like online applications. None of them work like
desktop apps.
Am I still screwed in this arena?

Hopefully not permanently. In the last couple weeks a group
of us
developers (online, offline, mobile, PC and Mac) have begun
discussions around creating an import/export standard to get
data
into/out of your GTD apps - essentially so you feel more
confident in
your ability to migrate should you want to. The topic of
this
enabling sync has come up a couple times but it's not an
immediate
concern. There are two Mac apps on the list already and it
would be
fantastic if the Omni guys would play too. If any of you
know them
(or developers of other GTD-ish software) please get them to
mail me
on richard (at) tudumo.com.

An alternative is to use a Mac/PC solution, like
Thinkingrock or
Easytask manager.

Scrybe promises to be cross platform:
http://iscrybe.com

And EasyTask is also a good solution, and the developer is
both quick
and responsive.

Anybody care to compare OF to Midnight Inbox?
