I wanted to ask you earlier if you just yank out the External Hard
drive or do you use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option. Meanhile,
when using a USB [External] Hard Drive or Flash drive, it is
necessary to use the windows "safely remove hardware" option [at the
bottom right on the Taskbar] do not yank it out. If you are yanking
it out eventually you'll get corrupt data on the usb drive. The
(potential) consequences are corrupt file system on the drive - and
you can lose all data on the drive, or the drive will become
permanently unusable. In your case you system does not see it.
1. I want you to plug it in before turning on your Tower.
2. Turn on your Tower.
3. See if your system can see the drive.
* I have had this happen with many of my clients, and what we end up
having to do is connect it to another Computer, go through
the "Safely Remove Hardware", then connect to the original PC or
Laptop.
