Job description:
Our client is looking for a Software Engineer for a position
located in Downtown Atlanta.


We seek a talented software application developer to join
our team with the ability and desire to work on the
leading-edge in support of Client’s advanced technology
initiatives. Candidates should have exposure to a broad
range of technologies including networking, operating
systems, application development, and databases with an
emphasis on Java and SQL. Experience with UNIX/Linux,
Windows, Office, and open-source technologies are highly
desirable. Strong math background is preferred. Distributed
programming and/or grid computing experience is highly
desirable.

This position will support the development and enhancement
of applications and technologies in Client’s product
implementation division. This position offers a unique
opportunity for the right person to grow in all facets of
software engineering. Candidates must be able to work
equally well individually and as members of an extended team
in support of our world-class gift card practice. A
pragmatic sense and inventive spirit are critical.

The candidate must experience both developing and
maintaining Java-based applications, as well as strong
hands-on technical knowledge, including solid
infrastructure/hardware background. The candidate will
participate in various activities, including all phases of
the software development life cycle, troubleshooting and
overall support for several applications. This is a hands-on
position and requires someone who is not afraid to wear
multiple hats.


Position Responsibilities: 

Planning: Participates in, or leads, planning sessions with
clients, business analysts, and team members to analyze
business requirements, assess feasibility of solution,
develop detailed functional requirements, and provide design
recommendations.

Communication: Educates and influences IT and business
management in areas of expertise.

Technical Specifications: Responsible for writing technical
specifications. Provides design recommendations, developing
application and custom integration solutions, including
major enhancements and interfaces.

Translate Business Requirements: Translates business and
technical requirements into business application systems.
Recommends and monitors development guidelines.

Programming Language: Applies expertise of multiple
programming languages or software technologies. Builds broad
knowledge of systems. Increases knowledge of the business to
include the larger organization and interrelationships in
the business.

Workload Management: May serve as a project lead or
technical lead. As a project lead, prepares project plans
and resource estimates, assigns and manages project
responsibilities, and performs status reporting. Or as a
technical lead, assists in defining project plans, resource
estimates and status reporting.

Develop/Maintain Software: Develops and modifies complex
software systems using disciplined software development
processes. Makes recommendations toward the development of
reusable software modules.

QA: Tests and leads implementation of application modules,
reinforcing use of QA principles and processes, from
multiple systems they have developed or modified. Ensures
application meets needs of client and business.

Research Emerging Technologies: Keeps abreast of emerging
technology solutions. Assists with research, analysis and
validation of emerging technology solutions for the line of
business supported.

Adherence to agreed upon timelines is required. The position
requires strong technical skills and strong people skills to
enable the candidate to mentor other developers and to
interface between the development team and other
organizations and roles. The candidate will participate in
and may lead development efforts. This position requires
someone that is a self starter, requiring little direct
supervision and the ability to work in a fast-paced
environment with changing priorities and very tight
deadlines.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related field;

3 - 5 years experience in application programming.

Development in JAVA in a J2EE environment, including EJB
development, application servers, JDBC, JSP/Servlets, XML,
XSL with significant development with relational database
systems (i.e. MS SQL Server, Oracle, and hibernate).

JBOSS experience required. Tomcat experience a plus.

Analysis, Design, Coding, Unit and Integration testing of
business applications in an object oriented environment

Can diagnose and solve production technical &
infrastructure problems without relying on a dedicated
support with in stipulated SLAs.

Ability to implement reliable, flexible and scalable
systems. Past experience with performance analysis and
improvements of large complex 
systems are a significant plus. 

Demonstrated ability to create requirements documents,
process documentation, develop and analyze reports (ad hoc
analysis & routine metrics)

Proficient with general computer applications (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, etc.)

Ability to work with cross functional teams (marketing, IT,
Fraud, Finance, Customer Service) to support and develop new
products.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize work load and meet
multiple
project deadlines

Extremely detail oriented

Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment and make
independent
decisions. Must be comfortable and productive in a fast pace
start-up environment

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

Must be a team player and have team-building skills
