Amavis almost killed my server!

Hi all amavis-users,
I was shocked this morning - my webserver has stopped
working. After 3 
tries SSH let me enter and what I've seen? 100% CPU use and
4MB free 
space left (!)...
After checking logs I have found that amavisd was trying to
access 
/var/amavisd/db directory, but without success. It has been
writing 
error message to systems log for 9 hours - 330MB and whole
server was 
actually down during to 100% CPU use.

This config (amavisd-new 2.4.5) is working since 20
september 2006 
without any problems, but today it just started to ignore
this folder 
(exists, and was accessible by amavis user and group). I had
to set 
chmod +x to make this working again :/

How is it possible to amavisd lose access to this
directory?

Are you the only admin on that server? Sounds like someone
played
with chmod or so. ;)
