Smooth upgrade to V 2.4.2?

Hello!

I am considering an upgrade to amavisd-new version 2.4.2 on
my Debian 
"etch" box, any further tipps
"caveats".
(Besides reading the release notes)?

Hello,

Well, the config file layout has definitely changed so you
will have to 
rewrite all your confs but thats really not that long.
Personally I like the new layout.
Apart from that I don't think you will have any problems
with the 
upgrade (unless if you use some really old syntax LDAP
searches .

Before you install 2.4.2, stop amavisd-new and rename
amavisd.conf to
amavisd.conf-20030616p10 or something like that. This will
prevent an
error during installation. You should allow it to overwrite
files
(like /etc/init.d/amavis) as it finds them. Prepare ahead of
time what
settings you will need to change. Most settings can go in
the 50_user
file (the last file read, so settings here will usually
override
settings in other files). After installation, edit
15-content_filter_mode to enable spam and virus checks
(disabled by
default). Ideally you would set up a staging area with all
the files
completely configured beforehand which could immediately be
copied
over after installation.

Oh yes. This i learned the hard way, last time i tried it

Thx. That is precisely what i searched for i was a little
confused cause 
there are so many config files after the upgrade.
Knowing in which files to (meanigful) set the options helps
alot.

I did it with the staging area, good idea.
It worked like described, had to rewrite some parameters
cause syntax 
changed.

btw:
I had to purge and reinstall my amavisd-new on my Debian box
cause afaik 
i had some incompatible Config-Files from a later upgrade
try,
even after i deleted the files manually it wont reinstall
...
