FC5 cannot start amavis-mitler

Hello,
   
     After used yum to install amavisd, I cannot start the
amavis-milter for my sendmail on FC5,
   
  [rootabc log]# service amavisd status
amavisd (pid 6006 6005 6003) is running...
amavis-milter is stopped
   
  but I can restart the amavisd
   
  [rootabc log]# service amavisd restart
Shutting down Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd):                [
 OK  ]
Starting Mail Virus Scanner (amavisd):                     [
 OK  ]

  so what can I do on this problem ?

enable the milter in /etc/sysconfig/amavisd

But I've had limited success getting it to work all of the
time (it'll
mostly work, but you get random TEMPFAIL errors seemingly
without any
cause semi-frequently).  Seems to be a protocol mismatch
between it and
the current amavisd (the amavis-milter that ships with it
apparently
isn't maintained anymore and just hasn't been removed from
the tarball).
 There's a newer milter that actually works at
http://amavisd
-milter.sourceforge.net/

I have it packaged already (I have multiple servers I'm
working on
deploying it to), but without any initscripts (it doesn't
come with
any).  Hoping to get an initscript for it later this week
and then I'll
post the initscript and the spec file.
