Hello fellow listers

Hats off to the devs around here for a great piece of
software!

We are involved in deploying some new servers and we are
planning to add
a second instance of Postfix/Amavisd-new to our existing
instance.

My question is this:

Do we need to run another full instance of amavisd-new for
the new
instance of Postfix? Or can I reuse the current instance
with some
modifications?

No, you can use the same instance listening on different
ports and policy
banks.

See :
   - the amavis.conf-sample file
   - http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/amavisd-new-do
cs.html#pbanks

Also Gary V's write up which describes bypassing amavis also
gives good
examples on the use of policy banks:

Right. Just make sure the number of amavisd child processes
is a sum of maxproc from both Postfix services feeding
amavisd.

Very cool. I use policy banks now. They are the murkiest
parts of
amavisd-new so reading more information about them will be
awesome.

Thanks!

Most information about new features is written in
RELEASE_NOTES
when a new feature is first introduced.

There are several references to policy banks in release
notes,
start reading them bottom-up, beginning with
amavisd-new-2.0
when it was introduced.

And of course:
http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/amavisd-new-do
cs.html#pbanks
Also, more examples of the format are in amavisd.conf-sample
and
the bottom of amavisd.conf-default shows a list of the
variables
that may be referenced in a policy bank.
