The Virus Bulletin is the most reputable AV testing organization and their results mean something as they provide extensive data about their testing scenarios, results and detailed analysis of the pros and cons of different engine approaches. These results do not mention many other important factors such as scan speed, memory utilization and effectiveness in different categories such as ploymorphic viruses. Since in our corner of the world that is what we are concerned with, I'm sure there would be much less of a discrepancy if the tests only dealt with that type of malware.
