Thread: How to discard messages where Postfix from=<>

How to discard messages where Postfix from=<>
user name
2007-12-22 19:18:42
Google ignores search term "<>", so if this
has been answered I can't
find the solution.

I'm stuck with an old version of Postfix (1.1.3). I believe
amavisd is
v2.4.0 dated 20060403.

I wish to have amavis discard all messages where the Postfix
log says:
 connect from FQDN[IP]
 client=FQDN[IP]
 message-id=<ID>
 from=<>, size=SIZE, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
       ^^^^^^^
Can you please either give me the text of a line to enter
into
amavisd.conf or a pointer to where I can find my answer?

"<>" is often referred to as the null
address; search google with that term.

This is not a good idea. Legitimate bounces that you do not
want to
discard are sent from the null address.

Well, you could implement vbounce rules from SA (Ibelieve
they're
standard as a module since the start of the 3.x series, i.e,
the
vbounce.pm module), and ONLY accept bounces from servers
named as
local or all_trusted in your local.cf.
That should do the trick.

And here you have a link to Justin Mason's blog about spam
and hother
issues, and an article about your concerns:

A search for:
  amavisd.conf "null address" -SQL
fails to return anything useful.

So I'm still looking for:

try "null sender address", without anything else.
see
	http://en
.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounce_message
for example. The null sender address is mandated by the
RFCs. if you
reject it, you will be a candidate for listing at
	http://www
.rfc-ignorant.org/policy-dsn.php

if you receive too much backscatter, see postfix BACKSCATTER
README for
ideas that will help you block such junk. but don't block
the null
sender address. this is the wrong pattern.
