All was fine for months and months, i rebooted and now
clamd.ctl is not
created anymore.... i still cannot belive why its so
complicated to get
something so simple to work....
its should be straightforward...
i installed clamav-daemon and clamav via apt-get on Debian
Etch....
clamav.conf file is below
i run it as user clamav, directories are owned by amavis,
amavis is in
clamav's group clamav is in amavis's group, i even 777 the
/var/run/clamav dir, not luck , even as the user clamav or
amavis if i
"su - " to them i can write and delete no problem.
but god forbid the
dam clamd.ctl file can be created! and then if it does will
amavis be
able to talk to it...
of course i restart after i make any change... currently i
have amavis
not to use clamav as it does not work i was getting the
dreaded cannot
connet to UNIX socket, bla bla
Anybody ?? i am pulling my hair out... AHAHAHAHH..
Thanks to all

This is far more relevant to the clamav-users mailing list
;)

Does clamd start? What version of clamd are you running?

I think i remember running into the clamd.ctl problem.
It's something like you have to stop amavis and run clamav
first.
If amavis is alive before clamav something weird happens i
believe. or
it may be the other way around... don't remember clearly.
I just remember that the order of which daemon is started
first
determines whether clamd.ctl can be created. Play with that
a bit that
might help.

That's very out of date - update to 0.92.1.

That just means the package maintainer is horribly behind.
There have
been 7 releases (and almost a year) since 0.90.1 was
released. I take
it you don't pay any attention to the warnings from
freshclam ;)

Nah. 0.92.1 is in experimental.
Release policy. But the OP should use volatile.

This is a known issue for this version of ClamAV. It's
unfortunate
that etch got stuck with this particular version.
I suggest adding etch volatile source to
/etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://vol
atile.debian.org/debian-volatile etch/volatile main
Then:
gpg --keyserver subkeys.pgp.net --recv-key BBE55AB3
gpg --armor --export BBE55AB3 | apt-key add -
apt-get update
apt-get install clamav clamav-daemon clamav-freshclam
At least, this is how I would do it. YMMV. No guarantees.
