EOM ACK/NAK timeout

I have the following _working_ configuration:

sendmail 8.13.6
amavisd-new 2.4.0
SpamAssassin 3.1.0

Switching the classic milter to amavisd-milter 1.1.2,
everything works fine for a while,
unless a random lack of SpamAssassin headers fields
(but this wouldn't be a serious problem).

Then I get the following errors:

May 25 00:04:31 nessuno sendmail[1823369]: k4OLYKt61823369:
milter_data(amavis-milter): EOM ACK/NAK timeout
May 25 00:04:31 nessuno sendmail[1823369]: k4OLYKt61823369:
Milter(amavis-milter): to error state
May 25 00:04:31 nessuno sendmail[1823369]: k4OLYKt61823369:
Milter: data,reject=451 4.3.2 Please try again later
May 25 00:04:32 nessuno amavisd-milter[1773006]:
k4OLYKt61823369:
mlfi_eom:amavisd connection not available for 1801 sec,
giving up

and the mail system stops working,
rejecting _all_ messages after the milter timeout.

The level 9 debug doesn't show anything.

Any hints?

Log level 9 on amavisd-milter or on amavisd ($log_level)?

Is amavisd process still alive? I believe your answers
lie in the amavisd log - find corresponding amavisd
log enties to your queue-id k4OLYKt61823369.
