Hi Sheldon,

I did some searching around and found several places where people are
saying that the -5V power was needed for ISA devices, and that the -
5V supply is no longer part of the specs for ATX motherboards.

For example: http://www.hardforum.com/archive/index.php/t-1015706.html

I don't know, but maybe if you take out the ISA sound card, the
motherboard itself will work without the -5V? That seems to be what
some people are suggesting. If that doesn't help, then I guess you
would need to try to find an older style power supply that has the -
5V you need. Either that or upgrade to a newer motherboard.

Rick,

Many thanks for looking for answers to my
problem!

Someone else mentioned that it might be time to toss that old
ISA card.

I'm being somewhat stubborn, in using rather old hardware etc.

I set the BIOS to _NOT_ halt on any errors.

Now it boots without interruption.

And the sound card does put out sound.

So maybe the motherboard's BIOS had been
"told" [by the manufacturer] that -5V was (or might be) needed
for ISA. And maybe in fact that particular
Soundblaster ISA card doesn't need it?
