I don't know why would soapUI send 4 requests. I only click
on the button
once.
As for the server closing the connection when it's not
recognizing the
request, it is a possibility. However, nowhere in the
documentation I was
given was it indicated that real values should be passed. As
I was
explaining John, this web service should be called blindly
since the client
is not supposed to know what field devices just changed
status. Plus, they
have sent me a C client generated with gSOAP. They claimed
that it is
working. I looked at the code and I couldn't see any real
values in there
either. Based on the MAKE file, I generated the executable
and when I call
it, I get a "Connection was gracefully closed by
server" response.

As I said, I can make the wsdl and xsd files available to
you, if you want
to try it. For the values, just like me, you would go with
some defaults.

Thanks,
Eddie

Did it just send 4 requests or does it retry automatically
or something?

Anyway, there's a good possibility that if you send it
something invalid
it'll close the response without responding. I've seen
developers do this
before (if the input isn't expected or can't be handled,
just call
Response.Close) so I wouldn't put it past them to be doing
something similar
(which is wrong, but the only thing you can do is send it
valid input).

Adam..

Forgot to mention that when something comes back from the
server, that is
prefixed with "<<" in the HTTP Log output
window of the soapUI tool. I'm
pretty sure you all knew that, though...

Hi Adam,

This is the HTTP LOg traced in soapUI. As you can see, there
is nothing
coming back from the server.

Out of curiosity, have you looked at the actual response
from the server
that you get back? Either using soapUI if it lets you see
the raw data, or
through a TCP trace tool. If you're filling the request up
with proper
values (if they're all enumerations then you likely are, but
if it's other
data types you may not be), the raw response might tell you
(or us) more
information.

Adam, John and Cristian,

Thanks for putting up with my lack of experience and giving
me very good
advice on how to make progress in my efforts to gain access
to that web
service. At this time I can see that the soapUI tool returns
a
NoHttpResponseException which is described in the apache
documentation as
being thrown when the server fails to respond with a valid
HTTP response.

I think I need to get someone from the technical side
involved, whoever that
may be.

Thanks again for your time.
Regards,
Eddie

That means you should put in one of the values of "off,
green, red, yellow,
flashing" in the <meter-status> element.

Repeat with all other "?" values until it works.

The wsdl is 3kb and there are two XSD files referred. One is
17kb and one is
14kb. I can send them to you if you want.

Incidentally, here is how that meter-status element is
defined:

<xs:complexType name="RampMeterStatus">
        <xs:sequence>
                <xs:element name="device-id"
type="Device-identifier"/>
                <xs:element name="meter-status"
type="Meter-status"/>
                <xs:element name="last-update"
type="DateTimeZone"/>
        </xs:sequence>
</xs:complexType>

// further down

<xs:simpleType name="Meter-status">
        <xs:restriction base="xs:string">
                <xs:enumeration
value="off"/>
                <xs:enumeration
value="green"/>
                <xs:enumeration
value="red"/>
                <xs:enumeration
value="yellow"/>
                <xs:enumeration
value="flashing"/>
        </xs:restriction>
</xs:simpleType>
