Well if all else fails I'd be quite happy to write a little
bot to
download and parse the archive of messages (if Richard
doesn't mind the
temporary load on the server), then for now I can tuck them
away somewhere
on my site. (I was tempted to do that when Richard first
announced the
taking the list offline, but held off as it looked like
there were going
to be other solutions; I'm now starting to regret not doing
that earlier
since this is pushing up to the deadline - I may write it
anyway just to
be safe).

It's not ideal as it'd be without the listserver software,
just the posts
plus some basic pages to allow browsing/viewing them. In
other words,
archive only unless/until I code up some .aspx pages to
handle posting,
which could take a week or two as I'm quite busy at the
moment. But if
nothing else happens to save the list...

How large is the archive, any idea? I was wondering if
zipping annual or
semi-annual chunks might be do-able and set that out for
download. Since
this is text I would think the compression rate would be
pretty good. But
a huge archive even compressed could be unwieldy to
download.
