Hi.
I configured a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 with alsaconf (it use the emu10k1 driver) on Debian Unstable.
I am a 4.0 channels speakers, so I'm using only 4 channels at the moment.
All the channels work, and with alsamixer I can set the levels with "Wave" for the front channels and with "Wave Surround" for the rear channels.
The problem is that if I set the volume of the "Master" channel, only the front channels are setted, and the volume of the rear channels remains unchanged.
This causes me some problems with the volume management in the applications like MithTV.

How I can solve this problem? I wish to have a way to set the volume of all channels with only one level.

Thank you very much!
Bye.

Hi!

The answer of your problem is softvol. Take a look at the
wiki:

http://alsa.opensrc.org/How_to_use_softvo
l_to_control_the_master_volume
http://alsa.opensrc.o
rg/Softvol

The more complex example of the first article sets up a new
volume
control for the front channels, one for the the rear
channels and one
for all channles. Once this is set up, you have to tell
MythTV to pick
this channel when changing volume.

If anything in these two articles is unclear, please tell me
so I can
change them.

Regards, Ingo

No, the answer is to fix the driver, but none of the patches
that have
been posted to address this issue have been accepted.

Takashi-san, can you explain again why none of the proposed
solutions
is acceptable?

The patch at that time didn't do only the necessary thing
(make
"Master" as master) but adds more mixer elements.
That is, it will
give you (even more) finer controls and it's obviously too
much for
normal users.

If someone sends me a patch just to fix "Master"
control problem, then
I'm willing to apply it as soon as possible...
