Another thread from a newbie I'm afraid.

I started a campaign on adwords and just want to see the
best ways of
improving it. i currently have 280 keywords in a broad
match search
but all relevant to the industry which the business is in.
I have set
the campaign to work within a 40 mile radius and have a
budget of £30
a day and at £1.50 cpc max.

So far we've enjoyed a ctr of over 5%, but I want to know a
few things
and hope that more experienced uses will be able to help me.

Should I be running smaller campaigns rather than one large
one and
should i be looking at more targeted keywords and would this
bring the
cpc down?? £30 a day by the way is a pretty cheap way of
generating
enquiries, but I want to be able to reach the right
audience.

Thanks for any help your able to give

Marcus

I'm assuming your looking for both qualitative and
quantitative
increase in your enquiries. I don't think creating more
campaigns would
make a difference unless you want to change your language or
location
setting. Or if you want different daily budgets for
different ad
groups.
What might help is if you have more specific ad groups,
meaning better,
more targeted ads. You could also look at adding more
keyword. But they
should be relevant to your business. You could also look
into bidding
differently on certain keywords - bid higher for keywords
that convert
better.
Your average cpc would come down if your quality score
improves. Maybe
you can try new ads to see how they convert. Maybe you could
also
change things on your landing page to get more conversions.

Thank you for your help. I will have a look further into
everything
you've said and I'll let report back on how it goes. I have
recently
removed some keywords that had a poor ctr and have had days
where we've
enjoyed 10% ctr. We are in the process of changing the
landing page
and making it more appealing to convert hits to enquiries.
We are
currently using the max cpc per day route so we can control
the costs
every day and change the max from day to day. I'm not sure
on the
whole bidding on keywords part and will have to read up on
it, but i
think because of the industry we are in, home improvements,
we would
come up against very big national competitors with a
limitless adwords
fund. I will certainly look into it though.

Any other tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Marcus,

Do you track conversions? Do you have a way to separate good
leads from
bad leads? That would one way to optimize your campaigns, by
watching
which ads result in higher conversion leads, and pruning out
others, as
well as using negative keywords to try to reduce irrelevant
traffic.
Also, do you use any web tracking software for your site?
Those stats
may help you figure out what kind of visitors you get.
