How do I see where ads are displaying in

This notion of "content sites" seems trickier to
understand with regards to 
how and where my ads are showing up (and in what contexts).
Do the keywords 
apply equally to content sites, where users are using search
in those specific
sites? With Google search it is straightforward, but can
someone explain how I
