REPOSTED

Hello and welcome to the 'A Hummingbirds Guide to Myalgic Encephalomyelitis'
e-newsletter for October 2007

I hope this newsletter finds you and yours doing as well as possible.

I have a just two new projects to tell you about this month.

-----

A new paper/animated video/audio file is available: Problems with 'our' M.E.
(or CFS, CFIDS or ME/CFS) advocacy groups - The sheep and the wolves in
sheep's clothing

This paper looks at the problems with our advocacy groups, and why so many
of our groups are not engaged in useful advocacy and what we can do to help
change this. These groups and individuals have caused enough needless extra
suffering, abuse, neglect and DEATH. What is happening is a human rights
travesty on a massive scale. This has to stop. It has to BE stopped.

This paper is also available in animated video and audio formats. The theme
is: The sheep and the wolves in sheep's clothing. This isn't the first
animation I've created, but it is probably the most high tech....although
having said that, it is still very low tech relatively. (I don't have any
animation programs so I made up my own animation technique as I went along!)

It has been really fun to work on something like this again, I also really
hope it gives some much needed extra attention to this very important topic.
So happy viewing! Plus a big thank you to my sister Claire Bassett for all
the artwork in the video.

The text version is available at:

All positive comments on the YouTube pages for this video (and all the
others I've made) as well as 5 star ratings will be much appreciated as these help
to make sure this video gets out to as large an audience as
possible (and that people don't just see all the very popular but ignorant
'fatigue' based ones on there currently!)

Also, if you've seen all my videos and want to see more, there is a list of
other M.E. videos available on the 'Video and Audio' page; including a link
to Professor Hooper's 'Engaging with M.E.' lecture which is now available on
YouTube.

'A Million Stories Untold' has been fully updated

This paper (the first ever M.E. paper I wrote) is designed for people with
M.E. to give to friends and family members to help explain what M.E. is, as
well as what M.E. is not.

The descriptions of M.E. have been improved, a short references explanation
section has been added and there is now a 1 page summary of the main points
of the text included at the end.

This summary also describes some appropriate and inappropriate ways to deal
with friends or family who have M.E. It explains gently but firmly, that
encouraging someone with M.E. to 'positive think' or exercise themselves well is
inappropriate, cruel and never going to work! The fact that relapses in M.E.
are very often significantly delayed and so superficial judgements of
abilities are very often going to be misleading is also highlighted.

For the first time, there are also two versions of this text available; a 9
page condensed version as well as the full length 14 page version. Both
provide an overview of what we know about M.E., the severity, history and politics
of M.E., and the difference between M.E. and 'CFS.'

I hope you'll find this paper much improved.

If you have any further suggestions about things in this paper you wish I
had gone into more (or less) detail on, or anything important you think I've
missed; please let me know...and to all of you out there still fighting for
acceptance and basic respect from friends and family (or dealing with serious
abuse), know that you aren't alone... and the very best of luck to you all.....

one's battle with M.E.), until next month,
