Special Issue of Journal of Electronic Commerce Research
(JECR) on Web Search and E-Commerce

Overview
Accessing business and e-commerce information on the Web is
becoming an everyday activity for many people in the digital
age. Web search engines are an important element of
e-business and e-commerce. Web queries are a primary means
for translating people’s business product, service and
information needs for e-commerce. The level of business and
e-commerce Web searching is a major subject of interest,
particularly in the United States. 

This Special Edition of the JECR "Call for Papers"
addresses the need for a better understanding of the use of
Web search engines for e-commerce, including the development
of Web search engines for e-commerce, e-commerce Website
engines, etc. Questions that are of interest to this special
issue include: How do consumers use Web search engines for
e-commerce? What are the criteria of a good e-commerce Web
search engines? How effective are Web search engines for
e-commerce search? What are the different approaches and
dimensions to evaluate e-commerce Web search engine
usability? and What are the challenges and issues involved
in the design and use of Web search engines for e-commerce?

Purpose of the Special Issue
The purpose of this special issue is to encourage discussion
and communication of important research issues that underpin
Web search as an important aspect of e-commerce and to
showcase interesting and significant research work in this
critical area. Specifically, the issue proposes to compile a
succinct body of research efforts that examine various
issues related to Web search and e-commerce, thereby
advancing our understanding of an important e-commerce
dimension while at the same time providing a point of
departure for continued investigative efforts. Of particular
relevance to the described focus are papers about design,
evaluation and use of Web search engines for e-commerce,
consumer behaviors on Web search engines, and cultural and
cross-cultural research. The issue, however, will not be
restricted to these topics; rather, it welcomes reports of
theoretical or empirical research that examines pertinent
issues related to Web search and e-commerce. This special
issue will be of interest to researchers, e-commerce Web
site developers and the Web industry.

Evaluation of E-Commerce Web search engines
Consumer behaviors studies
Cross-cultural comparisons
E-Commerce search effectiveness

Submission of Manuscripts
All submissions must be in English, should represent
original work done by the authors, and must NOT have been
published, accepted for publication, or be presently under
consideration for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts should
be prepared according to the submission guidelines of
Journal of Electronic Commerce Research (JECR). Reviews of
the submitted manuscripts will proceed in accordance with
JECR’s editorial policy. Submissions should be by
electronic transmission ONLY (using a Word file attachment)
and must be sent to both guest editors.
