 THE PROGRAM:

"Ahead of the Curve: the Future of Internet Policy and
What It Means for
You"

Please join us for a lively panel discussion on the future
of web policy
and its implications for us as users and information
professionals.  We
will do an overview of several cross-cutting topics:

* The future of Internet in addressing global inequality
* The Internet, political participation and distributed
democracy
* Social networks and use of the Internet
* The social, political, and intellectual forces shaping
access to and
use information and technology
* Ethical challenges and opportunities in Internet 2.0.

Kenneth R. Fleischmann is an Assistant Professor in the
College of
Information Studies of the University of Maryland. His
research and
teaching interests include human-computer interaction,
social
informatics, information ethics, and value-sensitive design
of
educational computer simulations, computational models, and
digital
libraries.

Stephen E. Hannestad is the Director of Research of the
Center for
Information Policy, College of Information Studies of the
University of
Maryland.  His current research interests include knowledge
management
for emergency management, e-government, intellectual
property,
competetive intelligence, continuity of government and
continuity of
operations, national security classification policy, public
service, and
security policy. 

Paul T. Jaeger is an Assistant Professor in the College of
Information
Studies of the University of Maryland. His teaching and
research focus
on the ways in which law and public policy shape access to
information
in public forums, such as the Internet, libraries,
education, and
e-government. 

Our moderator will be Trudi Bellardo Hahn, Visiting
Professor at CLIS,
past-chair of PVC, and past-president of ASIS&T.  She
studies the
history of information science and technology, information
policy,
information literacy and assessment of learning.

The Center for Information Policy is a multidisciplinary
research center
that analyzes and provides solutions to current policy
issues relating
to the convergence of information and technology.  For more

during the
program.
