Tampere, Finland

Title:	"Ontology-Based Searching in Unannotated Text
Collections"

Abstract:

The web enables the information seeker to access billions of
digital
documents in many different languages. Without general
standards for
document representation, searching can be as confusing as it
is
rewarding. In his talk, Professor Kalervo Jarvelin from the
University
of Tampere (Finland) will consider the current methodologies
for online
searching, including the semantic web and the IR tradition.
He will then
present Quccoo (QUery ConstruCtion with OntolOgies), his
multilingual
ontology-based search interface, designed as an alternative
for
unannotated collections when content standards cannot be
enforced.
