Dear All:
Due to the large number of members of the American Society
for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) in North
and South Carolina and other researchers and practitioners
in the these states, we have decided to investigate the
possible formation of a Regional Chapter of ASIS&T for
North and South Carolina. A listserv has been set up for
the purpose of discussing a potential "Carolinas
Chapter." If you would like to be added to this
listserv, please email Cassidy Sugimoto at csugimoto unc.edu
<mailto:csugimoto unc.edu> and she will add you to the
listserv.
In addition to discussion on the listserv, we will be
holding an informational meeting in mid-September to discuss
interests in a regional chapter. If we decide to go ahead
with a "Carolinas Chapter,"
we will need to elect temporary officers, form a slate for
permanent officers, elect a steering committee to write
Chapter Bylaws, and sign a petition in favor of forming a
Carolinas Chapter. This petition must be signed by at least
15 members in order for us to submit an appeal to ASIS&T
Headquarters.
If you are unable to attend, but would like to be involved,
please email Cassidy at csugimoto unc.edu
<mailto:csugimoto unc.edu> and let me know how you are
interested in participating. We will need
volunteers/nominations in the following
areas:
1. Temporary officers until our next meeting (most
likely to be
held at ASIS&T in October).
2. Steering committee to develop Chapter Bylaws.
3. Nominations for Chair, Chair-elect,
Secretary/Treasurer, and
Record Holder for the 2007-2008 year. (For more information
on these positions, see htt
p://www.asis.org/AboutASIS/chofficermanual.pdf <http://www.asis.org/AboutASIS/chofficermanual.pdf> )
We will need to prepare an election slate at the
mid-September meeting, so please send your nominations in as
soon as possible (self-nominations are encouraged!).
More information about the date and time of the mid-
September meeting will be sent to the members of the
listserv, so please subscribe if you would like to be
included on further discussion on this topic.
Sincerely,
Cassidy R. Sugimoto
