The Faculty of Information
Studies (FIS) at
the University
of Toronto is on
the move;
the Faculty is expanding both in terms of number of people and in scope. The Faculty invites applications for two
tenure-stream appointments at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full
Professor to begin on July 1 2008. Rank
and salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
We seek candidates with excellent research
and teaching abilities and a commitment to shaping the future of the
Faculty
and the field of information. We value
people who transcend traditional divisions and we are specifically
interested
in candidates with active research agendas within one or more of the
following
critical areas of information practice: information organization and
classification; information resources, seeking, services, and reference. The candidate’s research agenda should fit
with the Faculty217;s inclusive focus and mission.
The Faculty's 2004-10 Academic Plan
recognizes that society's information practices are being reconfigured
and
transformed by material shifts in infrastructures as well as political
and
cultural shifts in our attitudes toward information as a social
phenomenon. In this context, as part of
a multi-year process of Faculty renewal, two faculty members are sought
to help
rethink and reshape the information profession through innovative
teaching and
collaborative research projects.
Overall, the Faculty of Information Studies
will be conducting three searches for tenured or tenure-track
professors during
academic year 2007-08, in parallel with the University's search for a
new Dean
for the Faculty. The Faculty217;s approved
Academic Plan envisages continued faculty growth over coming years,
with as
many as 10-12 more searches expected to be conducted during the 2008-12
time
frame.
The University
of Toronto
offers the opportunity to teach, conduct research and live in one of
the most
culturally diverse cities in the world. The Faculty of Information
Studies
provides a context in which to work in an emerging interdisciplinary
environment and in a range of collaborative programs including
Knowledge Media
Design, Book History and Print Culture, Women's Studies, Ageing and the
Life
Course, and Women̵7;s Health.
