We are pleased to invite you to contribute to the "Enterprise Information
Systems for Business Integration in SMEs: Technological, Organization and
Social Dimension" within your field of expertise related to the book
topics.
*** Introduction:
Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) consist of an integrated technology
platform that enables organizations to integrate and coordinate all their
business processes. Today they are a strategic area of primordial relevance
that impacts organizations, business, economy and
society. Enterprise solutions no longer
consist of isolated or dispersedly implemented MRP solutions, electronic
commerce solutions, ERP, etc. They are now an orchestra of integrated
solutions communicating with each other that include ERP (or extended ERP),
electronic commerce, supply chain management, and CRM. These solutions
increase responsiveness, flexibility and agility and are supported by a
common information infrastructure. These
suites of solutions are no longer designed for large enterprises and
multinationals, with high turnover. They are also a tool for productivity
and competitiveness and can be implemented in small businesses. They are no
longer exclusively used in industrial companies; there are now solutions for
all types of business and sectors of activity.
*** The mission and
overall objectives of this book:
The
mission of this book is to discuss the main issues, challenges,
opportunities and trends related to this area of IT solutions, which is in
permanent evolution, and impacts every part of the organization and the
inter-organizational environment (in particular for SME). Enterprise
Information Systems touch every process of an organization and new
functionalities in existing solutions along with new solutions which emerge
everyday. EIS are responsibly by tremendous gains or even result in
tremendous losses. Enterprise Information Systems will be addressed
comprehensively from the technological, organizational and social
perspectives, aiming at to disseminate current developments, case studies,
new integrated approaches and practical solutions and
applications.
The overall objectives
are:
- To discuss the importance of Enterprise
Information Systems to Small and Medium Enterprises and the emerging
technological developments (information integration, enterprise integration,
functionalities); - To present practical
solutions; - To introduce the state-of-the-art solutions
for SME and supported functionalities; - To discuss
the open source movement: opportunities, trends, risks, advantages and
disadvantages; - To discuss integrated
solutions; - To introduce and discuss the challenges or
difficulties associated with the social, organizational and technological
perspectives; - To discuss organizational and social
implications; - To discuss organizational
preparedness; - To discuss adequateness of solutions to
SME requisites and expectancies; - To discuss critical
success factors; - To discuss the future generations of
Enterprise Information Systems.
The
book is intended to support the academic audience (teachers, researchers and
students, mainly of post-graduated studies), and IT professionals (system
developers and IT specialists). It is also intended to support subjects of
Enterprise Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Management
Information Systems and Management in general.
