The School of Information Studies (iSchool) at Syracuse University is searching for one or more established information professionals to join our faculty as Professors of Practice, with rank commensurate with experience. A successful applicant will be expected to provide undergraduate and graduate students with a practitioner’s perspective, both as a teacher and as a mentor.
The iSchool (http://ischool.syr.edu) offers academic programs leading to a bachelor8217;s degree in Information Management and Technology; masterR17;s degrees in Information Management, Telecommunications and Network Management, and Library and Information Science; and a Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology. The school hosts seven research centers and laboratories and has research strengths in information management, information security, virtual collaboration, Internet research methods, emerging networking technologies, natural language processing, digital literacy, information retrieval, digital libraries, and telecommunications policy. As a professional school, we maintain close ties to industry, including active research and instructional partnerships with large corporations and non-profit organizations.
Our faculty includes leading scholars from a diverse set of academic disciplines as well as individuals with technical and managerial experience. The iSchool maintains high standards for teaching excellence, and our faculty members are actively involved in both scholarly and applied research. Consistent with Syracuse University’s focus on Scholarship in Action, we encourage faculty to develop and apply innovative techniques that actively engage students inside the classroom, in our laboratories and research facilities, and in the greater community.
Candidates are expected to hold at least a masterR17;s degree. Preference will be given to candidates with established records of formal or informal teaching and demonstrated professional leadership. A proven track record in the field of practice is highly desired. Professors of Practice are full participating members within our “Faculty of One,”; a highly collegial environment that stresses collaboration among our schoolR17;s faculty and with other members of the University community.
Candidates are expected to maintain professional ties in their field of expertise and leverage external relationships in order to enhance our academic programs. Responsibilities will be appropriate for rank, with a typical teaching load of three courses per semester, as well as advising, participation in School and University committees, and other duties as assigned by the dean.
