Installing libesd0 blanks the screen on bootup, Ångström spitz image 20070325

Using Ångström spitz image of 20070325, when I install
libesd0, which is
necessary for the gpe-conf to work and reboot, the Z boots,
then when the
login is screen would come up, the screen is blanked -
turned off, and I can't
turn it back on again. The Alt-4 combination doesn't work,
home key, nothing
brings it on.

Any solution to this?

Why is libesd0 required? I believe we're using pulseaudio
now instead of esd.

Almost. Legacy applications link to libesd0 and talk to
pulseaudio using the esd network
port and protocol.

And for the other problem: gpe-conf causes the error, not
libesd, an updated gpe-conf is
in the feeds.
