Default view for wxListCtrl?

Hi,
I am new hobby programmer, trying out DB 4.05. When I create
a wxlistctrl with DB without selecting a view, I get a debug alert when
the program runs, stating the style should have exactly one mode bit
set. I didn't do anything with the control, just built progam as DB
constructed it. Just wondering if maybe there should be a default view,
to protect against beginners like me or maybe a warning in the
window above the property editor to select a view.
Thanks, George

Hi!

If you don't mind a personal opinion, it's not usually advisable for a newbie in
any capacity to jump in the deep end!;) That's basically what one is doing when
one attempts to get a feel for and established product by using it's Beta
release. You might do better to use 3.17, the official (GA) release.

And now, for some pointers.

1) It's always best to state the platform you're using (e.g., Windows, Linux,
Solaris, etc.)

2) Ditto the compiler you're using (e.g., GCC, MinGW, Visual Studio, etc.)

3) It is _extremely_ helpful if you can attach a .pjd (that's the project file
DB generates), along with any source files you've modified by hand (the project
file won't regenerate your hand coding!;)

That said, I tried a bare bones implementation in both 4.05 and 3.17 of a simple
application that has a wxFrame which contains a wxListCtrl, neither of which did
I modify from what DB generated. The application ran fine with no error popups.

My platform: Windows XP, Sp2
My compiler: MinGW, runtime 3.11 with gcc 3.4.2

I can only guess that you're probably making some assumption re: DB and how it
operates that is incorrect. If you attach your .pjd, that could help make your
problem clearer.

thx,
Dave S.

FYI: A good basic, step-by-step tutorial on using DB to build a simple
(but useful!;) application is Data Converter (8 bit) Tutorial. It is
available at:

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/wxMS_developers/links/Tutorials_001158735652/Dialog_Blocks_Data_C_001158483386/

Or, if you don't want to join that group (it's the same process as
joining this group), you may find it at:

http://www.wxcodex.net/

You pick up 1 of the 4 packages that are the tutorial, depending on
the format you'd like to have:

CHM: for Windows platforms, compiled help file.
HTB: for any platform that has the wxWidgets helpview from utils built
PDF: for Adobe Reader (or equivalent)
HTML: All the .html and image files in separate directories,
accessible with any browser.

Additionally, you pick up the code package (although, strictly
speaking, this is not necessary if you are building the application
from scratch from one of the tutorial formats), if you want to see
what the code should look like upon successful completion.
