Moin David,
moin all,
I use pretty much the same since long.
For a fresh installation I recommend Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 "etch", which is
out in the wild since a couple of weeks. Updating from sarge 3.x to etch 4.x
might be tricky for a newbie.
VMware vertual machines are realy worth a try. I have a Linux box with
Debian sarge in English and sometimes ues a Debian sarge in German in a VM
on my Windows XP box.
