Thanks for this fix.

Unfortunately the import usecase seems to always take the 
example-content from the default pub and not the new pub,
even if I remove 

<templates>
  <template id="default"/>
</templates>

from publication.xconf.

Any hints?

Yes, this is hard-coded ...
How should we handle it instead?
