Yes, the Digital Rebel XT from Canon is a good DSLR for
beginners and
serious armatures alike. Even better, the Digital Rebel
XTi. Basically the
same camera except 10.2 vs. 8Mp. And some other
improvements as well.
The down side to either is the physically small sensor which
gives both
cameras a 1.6 multipacation factor, (a 100mm lens behaves
as 160mm). This
might be an issue if you enjoy shooting with extremely wide
angle lenses.
And also the small footprint, If you have large hands it
might be a bit
cumbersome.
You can get into a digital rebel for under a kilo buck and
when you move up
to say the D5 all of your lenses will fit and the trouble
with the 1.6X
Factor will go away.
I am amazed how clean my Rebel XT shoots at High ISO
settings. ISO400 looks
great. Haven't done much at 800 or 1600.
