Forrester: Mobile Internet Usage In Europe To Surge Over The
Next Five Years [news release]
Thirty eight percent of cell phone users in Western Europe
will use mobile Internet services by 2013 according to a new
five year forecast by Forrester Research, Inc. (Nasdaq:
FORR). The growth in adoption means that 125 million
Europeans will access the Web regularly from their mobile
phone – triple the number that do so today. One of the key
drivers will be the proliferation of 3.5G-enabled devices,
which will overtake the number of GSM-only and GPRS phones
by 2010. By 2013, one in four consumers will own a
3.5G-enabled phone.

Google's share of the global Web search market dipped in

share, an internet industry analyst said. The data from
comScore, released to paying subscribers but not yet made

comScore “Digital World: State Of The Internet” Report
Highlights Growth in Emerging Internet Markets - U.S.
Currently Accounts for 21 Percent of Worldwide Internet
Users, down from 66 Percent in 1996
comScore released several key findings from its “Digital
World: State of the Internet” report. The study highlights
the changing dynamics of worldwide Internet usage, as it has
grown from a U.S.-centric medium to its currently global
landscape. In January 2008, the Asia Pacific region had more
than 300 million Internet users at least 15 years of age
accessing the Internet from work and home computers. This
represents an increase of 14 percent versus year ago and
makes Asia Pacific the largest of the five worldwide
regions. Latin America and Middle East-Africa have also
experienced above average audience growth during the past
year, while North America and Europe have grown at more
modest rates.

Take two modern American pastimes, the office pool for

Facebook. Put them together and what you get is an efficient

SPAM

The plus side of all this spam is its twisted poetry of
longing
Somewhere out there some firm that holds my credit card
details has been hacked. I know this because I have started
to get spam to an email address I only ever use for buying
things. I have no idea which firm it might be: in the past
two and a half years, I have had at least 520 messages to
that address, from around 75 different firms. I don't think
it's likely that any of the big ones - Ryanair, O2, Amtrak,
BT, John Lewis, and so on - has been hacked or else we would
hear more of it. (Wouldn't we?) But somewhere among the
software publishers, the music sites, the wine merchants and
secondhand book dealers I have been paying from this address
there is one whose customer database has been plundered.

Is the Wikileaks Case Really Like the Pentagon Papers Case?
by Julie Hilden
Recently, a case before San Francisco-based U.S. District
Judge Jeffrey White made headlines - thanks to two
controversial orders the judge issued last month. ... In
this column, Part Two, I will consider a comparison that has
been made both by observers and by Wikileaks itself,
paralleling this case to the "Pentagon Papers"
case. That case, as many readers will recall, arose from the
New York Times's publication, in 1971, of a lengthy secret
government history of the Vietnam War, leaked by former
Defense and State Department official Daniel Ellsberg. The
Supreme Court ultimately lifted an injunction against the
Papers' publication on First Amendment grounds.

Lewd photographs of children were disappearing from adult
bookstores. Child porn magazines in plain brown envelopes
were no longer reaching customers through the mail. It was
the early 1990s, and experts believed that federal law
enforcement efforts were ending child pornography. "We
thought this was one of those rare forms of social deviance,
of criminal behavior, that had been eradicated," said
Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children. "Except for a fixated group of
hard-core pedophiles, we thought it was gone."

"minority" of service providers.

ca: Liberal wants Ont. law to require reporting of suspected
child pornography
The opposition parties said Tuesday they expect to support a
bill by a Liberal backbencher in the Ontario legislature who
wants the law changed to make it mandatory for anyone who
suspects they've seen child pornography to report it to
police. Laurel Broten, a former environment minister,
introduced a private member's bill Tuesday that would make
it a criminal offence not to report any suspected image of
child sexual exploitation, saying she doesn't want people
wondering whether they should call authorities.
