Rob,

When I try to run one of my pages onlocalhost I get an error saying "The requested URL was not found." I notice that when I run my page from VS the URL is as follows:

http://localhost:2329/EmployeeStats/MobileCalculator.aspx

It has that port number I guess. If I use this URL on the emulator I get the message about needing to configure a modem. I think I am close to get this working but cannot seem to get past this point.

(sorry, been a long day)

in IE, can you browse anything local (ie. http://127.0.0.1/myhtml.html, or http://localhost/whatever..)

try this on your emulator now, can you get to anything local?

Thanks for this link. It has gotten me further along, I think. I got to the point where I Cradle my device emulator and it has the icon next to it like some of the articles said it should be. I also get a screen with an image of a PDA device. But when I open a browser session on this device emulator and then type in the web site I want to run I get this error:

Unable to connect. You have no modem entries created, and no network card present.

Does anyone know what I should do next?

Thannks,
Bob

start looking thru these:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/seminar/mmcfeed/mmcdisplayfeed.asp?Lang=en&Product=103364&Audience=100402&frame=true

(you just caught me 5 min. before a meeting)

Sorry, MS Search blows (wanted to give you a more refined list)

Thanks,

they update these emulators every once in a while:

Thanks for the response. This info will help me tremendously!

You said: "yes, VS has add-ons for mobile development (with a long list of emulators)

I am having trouble finding these emulators. I believe I already have the mobile add-ons because when I Add New Item in VS 2005, one of the choices is a mobile web form. Does this mean I have the add-ons? What I want to do is run one of my mobile pages on my desktop but render my html as if it was on a PDA.

Thanks,
Bob

1. this is more along the lines of good coding practices (vs. browser/device specific implementations)

2. yes, VS has add-ons for mobile development (with a long list of emulators)

3. buy a used 1 on ebay. you DONT need a mobile contract, simply plug the PDA into it's cradle and you can set it up to share the connection of the PC (without having to subscribe to phone service).

I want to redesign some of my web pages to also run on wireless PDAs. I have done some reaserch and have even written some of these pages which seem to work. But I have zero experience in using PDAs. I am a techie and I never ever used one! SO I have several questions:

1. After some Google searches, I have found that there are a gazillion different PDAs. When I design my pages, do I design them for the most popular PDAs and just hope they work on the others? The reason I ask this is because my site is a public site that I want any to access.

2. Probably a dumb question, but is there anyway to emulate how a mobile web page will look and run on a regular desktop? The reason I ask this is that I would like to test some of these pages before I go out and buy a device and sign up for 2 years of wireless internet service or whatever.

3. Where can I get a good deal on a PDA? How about a good deal on internet service for this thing? I presently use cingual call phone service and they have different data only plans. Are they any good? I really hate to spend a lot of money on this since I only need it for my testing. I will not be using this site in the future but my customers will. I really just need the PDA and internet connection for my testing.

Thanks!
Bob
