I've got three external Maxtor 'one touch' drives. I've
never messed
with the 'one touch' button, but I do use them to back my
boxes up.
They all three have both usb and firewire ports and either
work fine
with Linux.

If you have (or get) a Western Digital MyBook be sure to
check and see
if your unit is part of the firewire cable replacement that
they are
doing. got my new cable in the mail a week ago. never had
any problems.
