I see that Blockbuster has jumped on the Blu-Ray Bandwagon
(see:

According to that article... "All major studios except
one are
releasing films in Blu-ray, with several, including The Walt
Disney Co.,
releasing exclusively in Blu-ray. Only Universal Studios,
which is owned
by General Electric Co., exclusively supports HD DVD."
So... how does everyone think this is going to end up?

who still own Betamax players are requested not to provide
input

Instead of having Regular Screen or Wide Screen on opposite
sides of
DVDs they'll have Blu-Ray and HD-DVD - or they'll make
players that can
do both formats (as well as the old one).
Given the number of folks I know who use Disney stuff for
keeping their
kids occupied I'm guessing Disney's decision will have more
impact than
Universal's.
Betamax? Is that anything like my 8-track player? It seems
hard to
find new tapes for that...

you know, I'm something of an AV/HT buff (have 2 DLPs & a few $K worth of audio eq) but I have totally stayed on the sidelines for this. not so much for fear of picking the wrong horse, just shear/utter disgust w/the studios (DRM, writing/buying laws, re-buying titles AGAIN, etc.)... I'm going to hold out as long as I can (will-power wise) but I'm afraid if I ever hear a title w/a good audio track delivered lossless to a good system I'm going to totally cave (I'm probably more of an audio buff than video). a coworker (w/HD-DVD) has about convinced me that I can almost rationalize it w/Netflix vs. buying but I'm still holding out for now.
FWIW, I don't see how HD-DVD could possibly not win - the manufacturing costs are way less & the process is far more flexible. the only prayer I see blueray having is if HD-DVD';s DRM is totally broken & blueray9;s survives in which case the studios won't care about the mfg cost & will just pass it along. if they are able to stop the bleeding of HD's DRM then greed will inevitably lead them to the (significantly) cheaper medium.
just my 2c/never 2bHO...
