What are the plans for new GPL (version 3) license?
As far as i know, it is possible to re-license Audacity
under the terms
of GPLv3, because everywhere i see in Audacity and wxWidgets
GPL/LGPL is
mentioned as "version 2.1 of the License, or (at your
option) any later
version". I did not inspected every file though, so
there may be a few
'deviants' with no 'later version' mentioned. These will
require direct
permission from authors to be re-licensed.
Since Audacity is dealing with various file formats (some of
them may be
tainted with patents), having more up-to-date license may be
useful. My
opinion on this is "if there's no obstacles, then
license should be
updated, even if there is no obvious benefits from
that".

P.S. anyone got my previous e-mails about my GSoC FFMpeg
proposal? They
appeared in the list archive at sourceforge, but i got no
replies and
got no copies of my own messages (i should, judging from
list options).

Are you by any chance using GMail's SMTP server? It has some
interesting
bugs/quirks/features, one of which is that mail that you
send from it to
yourself or a list that you're subscribing to will not
appear as a
received mail in the web interface, just as a sent one, and
it will
never get sent out by their POP and IMAP servers (unless you
tell it to
give you _all_ mails, in which case it will also give you
copies of all
mails you have sent to other people).

I "fixed" it by switching back to my ISP's SMTP
server.

Yes, i'm using gmail. But you got one message (see
"problems building
wxWidgets/compiling Audacity") from me. And you got
this message you are
replied to. And you will get THIS message (i hope). Also, i
used gmail
with some other mailing lists...though maybe they were
hosted on gmail
themselves...

I didn't mean that the mails you send using GMail's SMTP
server
disappear completely, they just won't get echoed back to
you. Even if
you send them to a list you subscribe to.

This bug was introduced recently, a few months or weeks ago,
so if you
used other mailing lists before that you wouldn't have seen
it.

Ah, i see. Well, i'm OK with not receiving my own messages.
Important
thing is that they get sent to other people. I was concerned
because i
got no replies.

GPLv3: Already discussed on -devel
(http://sourceforge.net/
mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=4697F0FC.8090206%40audacityte
am.org
and
http://sourceforge.net/mai
larchive/message.php?msg_id=1184199204.5507.24.camel%40delph
),
and the current decision is maybe, but not until after we
release
Audacity 1.4.0.

FFMpeg proposal: I got 2 emails from you yesterday, but not
familiar
with the issues so didn't comment. My guess is that other
mentors were
looking for further communication on your app via the
Student Dashboard,
since that was where it had been previously. But you may
want to cc
summerofcodeaudacityteam.org (goes to the mentors) if you still
want to
get email feedback. Clearly, you're doing a lot of work and
thinking
about the project, and that is excellent!
