| Subject: [Audacity-help] commercial non-gpl licensing
| I would love to make use of your superb project in a
current project of
| our own (purpose is editing of ringtones); however I
suspect that
| approval for use of GPL'ed code will be difficult or
impossible to come
| by in this very large company of which we have
recently become a part.
| I note that various open source projects have a
separate license for
| folks in our position -- can you offer a non-GPL
commercial license for
| a fee?
If you are sure Cisco would not allow the project you are
working on
to be open source (note unless the part that includes the
Audacity
code is demonstrably separate from the rest of the Project,
the whole
Project would have to be open source), it is not likely we
can help.
To offer you a commercial closed source licence for money
would
require the unanimous agreement or a large number of
individual
people who have contributed to the code since our inception,
and
in practice, it is not going to happen.
