WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, PARDNER!!!
there is only ONE reason to "step up" an MP3 bro...
that is so you can burn them to an audio cd as wav files....you re-inflate
them, and the puter converts them to .CDA audio files...which are like packets
of one continuous track on an audio cd.
if you have a cd burning program that allows you to burn audio cds of
mp3's, it is automatically re-inflating the lossy mp3 files into wav
files...with noticeable sonic degradation.
EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU PROCESS AN MP3 IT WILL SOUND WORSE!!
there's absolutely no point in making all of the mp3's at the 320 bitrate
unless they are being encoded at that rate for the fist time from source
data.
if you try to re-inflate an mp3 to a larger bitrate, you are quite
literally shooting yourself in the foot.
generally, the standard with most actual web hosting services for mp3 is
24kbs for lo fi audio streaming (tho in function i've seen it as high as 56kbs)
and 128 for streaming, 192 for downloading.
if you take a hifi mp3 at 192k and inflate it to a wav, there is a
noticeable degradation in high end due to the loss of hi frequency
information.
i actually do that sometimes intentionally if i make a mix too brite
(hey, you try mixing after being a rock guitarist for 35 years)
but the key is, youre gaining nothing bro but agravation and bitcrushing
distortion.
leave your mp3's at the size they are (unless ripping them yourself) and
you'll be far better off.
unless your cd player can handle mp3 files (which more and more are capable
of doing) there's no point to changing the bitrate there, either. if you want to
fit a lot of songs on a cd, go with 192k when ripping source material (not
other mp3's)....you can fit 65-80 songs on there that way.
but if you DON;t have a cd player that PLAYS mp3's, you're confusing things
a little brother...cuz, see, when ya burn an AUDIO cd, mp3 isn;t a valid
format...the software will re-inflate the mp3 to a wav or cda and burn THAT to
disk, not the mp3....so you're saving no space on the final cd, either, cuz the
songs are still the same length...
when burning audio cds, you;re not dealing with data, you;re dealing with
TIME!
so...you can do what ya do if ya really want to...but you;re making more
work for yourself ultimately, as well as losing the quality of the source you
began with!!!
i hope i explained this right bro, not to hurt your feelings, but you;re
kinda shootin yerself in the foot the way you;re going bro!!
just a heads up.
peace,
pink jimi

Thanks, Jimi!!!!
Go through it in steps....
Step 1 - download songs as .mp3s (majority at
128Kb/s)....(keep 'em in my C: file)....
Step 2 - Run 'em through Audacity; crop, amplify, etc.
Export at 320Kb/s....
Step 3 - Burn 'em as .CDAs....
That's it....nothing more, nothing less....
The information I asked for was only for comparison....I
think I'll stay this way....

Thanks, Jimi!!!!
Believe I'll either step 'em up to 320 or leave 'em at
320....
I'll still get 79 minutes worth of songs on a CD....but,
I'll only get around 200Mb of information (20 .mp3s at 10Mb
each)....
If I choose not to save 'em as .mp3s, what file system will
allow me to save 'em at 35Mb per file (20 X 35Mb =
700Mb)?
That would "fill" the CD-R(RW)....
Is there a "variable" file size (choose your own
Mbs)?
