Can I save higher quality output, that I can import into iTUNES?

I have MAC 10.4.10.. (Not Intel),, I "think" I
am running aud 1.2.6..
A user for about a month..

Currently I import CD's into iTUNES at bit rate 1411.. The
problem
is that after I save an MP3 from audacity, then import the
MP3, it is
only 320 quality..

I tried saving an AIF (or is it AIFF) file from audacity,
but I was
never able to get the AIF into iTUNES.. Im looking for any

suggestions on getting a higher quality into ITUNES..

SIDE QUESTION:
If I make changes to the .aud file in audacity, then save
again as
MP3, can I assume this regenerates the MP3 file again with
no loss?

Also, while editing, if I copy a waveform from an aud
waveform
section, can I assume it will be aud quality and not MP3
quality (and
the same for MP3 sections of waveform).. OR AM I CONFUSED:
(maybe
audacity finds an aud file even in the trash, and pulls up
audacity
aud file, even though I double clicked the MP3)?
