How do I monitor the input from the PC speakers rather than from the deck earphones?  (I am trying to send our Sunday Church Sermons on CD's to my son fighting in Iraq.)  TKS, Jim Stone, Greensboro, NC

Hi Jim,

Try plugging the deck earphone out into the PC line in and
the deck
earphones into the PC speaker out.

Also, in audacity, under preferences you need to use the
Audio I/O tab
and select software playthrough. Things come with a slight
delay, but
will be OK.

What are you trying to log on to? If you mean the Forum,
the log on
details are not necessarily the same as the email address
and
password with which you registered for this list. If you do
mean the
Forum, try clicking "I forgot my password" when
you log on.

In addition to Robert's advice to connect the tape deck to
line-in and
turn on software playthrough in Audacity, you could record
the tape
"as is" into Audacity while getting on with
something else. Then
edit the recording in Audacity (if you use the Beta version
you can
use Effect > Truncate Silence to automatically reduce
detected silences
to as short as 1 millisecond).
