What are you trying to log on to? If you mean the Forum,
the log on
details are not necessarily the same as the email address
and
password with which you registered for this list. If you do
mean the
Forum, try clicking "I forgot my password" when
you log on.

In addition to Robert's advice to connect the tape deck to
line-in and
turn on software playthrough in Audacity, you could record
the tape
"as is" into Audacity while getting on with
something else. Then
edit the recording in Audacity (if you use the Beta version
you can
use Effect > Truncate Silence to automatically reduce
detected silences
to as short as 1 millisecond).
