Salut Alain,
Yes, virtualization puts quite
a load on both the CPU and the disk, and uses more memory as well.
You'd probably need a fairly contemporary dual-core CPU, a fast 7200 rpm
hard disk, and 2GB of memory in order to pull off this trick. If I
had to guess, I'd guess that nobody on this list has attempted this
feat. Perhaps gilles divergence-fm.org [name unspecified] will lead
the way for all of us. Gilles, lease keep us posted if there is any
success (or failure, I suppose).

Rich, i tried using a sandbox program i got off the Giveaway Of the
Day site, and it was a freekin' nightmare...audacity wouldn;t run right, the
memory was one issue, but the bigger issue is the sandbox wants control of
EVERYTHING.
i took it off my machine cuz to me, the audacity was way more important
than most of the other crap on this dumb thing.
;)
of course, this is a fairly old machine now..
2.7ghz processor, gig of ram, terrabyte + of storage...
but i didn;t see any REASON to run audacity in a virtual machine...
and remember, if you're using programs sandboxed, that's essentially a
completely different computer..yes, you can run programs on it, but you cannot
sync it with the stuff NOT sandboxed. too many shared resources or
something...i'm not advanced enough in my geekitude to really comment
further.
there IS a program out there that may work...
google "virtual Audio Cables"....
i don't know if this is still available, i got it along time ago:
Virtual Audio Cable v1.11
i did a quick goog, looks like it's all some kinda bit torrent
variants...good luck!!
but...we STILL have the problem of not being able to run to instances of
audacity at the same time.
try maybe the soundengine free program on my website to submix to stereo or
something?
got me...
