How can I slow down the speech/music playback in Audacity in order to 
isolate a particular intrusive sound? Zooming will change the waveform 
appearance, but not the speed of playback.

Use the Beta 1.3.x version of Audacity and use the
Play-at-Speed button,
setting the speed on the slider to right of the button. If
you can't see 
the button and slider, click View > Toolbars >
Transcription Toolbar.

Hi


depending on how long the sound is , approx. locate 
it select both sides and zoom and repeat ,you may find it hard when you 
slowwwwwwwww right down.
