It seems to me it would make more sense to store that
/tmp/unpacked file 
somewhere in the $JHALFSDIR directory?

Looks reasonable, due that is the unique file that isn't
created inside 
$JHALFSDIR. That is yet a legacy from the venerable 0.1 POC
code.

Changing it now.
