It is a sad day to see the 'original' L go dark.
I started the L in 1994 simply as a way to talk with other
editors who, like
me, were struggling to figure out their new tools. many
other must have been
struggling too, because it took off quickly. Clearly its
time had come.
After only a years or two, L Members started meeting at NAB
to talk
face-to-face. Then Avid started throwing us a party. Then
Avid hired me and
took ownership of the list.
But, things change. I left Avid, and the L rambled on for
awhile. Many of
the old guard wandered off. Some have died, and we have
mourned their
passing.
This L will be shut down, but the L2 continues. It's still,
like the L has
always been, a bunch of users hoping to learn from each
other and share the
journey. It is, after all, not about the list, but about the
community.
So I'll miss the L, but I know that the L continues. Long
live the L!
