odbc error

"Attempted updateable SELECT on a read-only
connection."

Any ideas why this is happening when trying to join two
fields with 
different names from different tables?
It works fine with the same data dictionary on another
client's odbc 
(earlier version of bbj, probably).

What can I do to allow this to work?  I don't want to turn
off read-only for 
safety reasons.
