1 Cebit 2006
Axel Gruner, one of the translators from the German
team, will be
handing out certification brochures at a BSD booth at
this year's
Cebit (http://www.cebit.de) in
Hannover, Germany. If you're planning
on attending Cebit from March 9 - 15, do stop by. Also, if
you are a
member of any of the BSD projects and are able to provide
handouts,
CDs or other materials for the booth in Europe, please
contact Axel at
http://www.allbsd.de/.
Cebit is just one of four European conferences
which will have BSD booths this year.
2 BSDCan 2006
BSDCan will be held in Ottawa, Canada in May. Last year,
the BSDCG
held an informal BoF (``birds of feather'') where
attendees had a
chance to ask questions answered by a panel of six
members of the
BSDCG.
We're looking for input on what you would like to see
from the BSDCG
at this year's BSDCan. Should there be a formal talk, an
informal BoF,
both, or something else entirely? Post your answer on
the bsdcert
mailing list
(htt
p://lists.nycbug.org/mailman/listinfo/bsdcert/) or use
our contact
form
(http://www.bsdcertification.org/index.php?NAV=Contact%
20Us).
3 BSDCG Update
While it has been a while since the last press release,
rest assured
that we've been quite busy negotiating with other agencies
the various
bits required to bring about a certification exam. As
things are
firmed up, we'll make announcements and you can expect
several major
announcements in the next few months.
Elections for the BSDCG board of directors and officers, as
defined in
the Bylaws
(http://www.bsdcertification.org/index.php?NAV=BSDC
G&view=3), will
occur in early March and the results will be posted on the
website as
well as the newsletter that follows the election results.
We should hear back from the IRS regarding 501(c)(3) status
before the
next newsletter. We should also have the publication date
available
for the annual financial report by then.
We encourage those who haven't had a chance to make a
donation yet to
consider doing so. (Visit
http://www.bsdcertification.org/index.php?NAV=Donate.)
If you have any
questions or concerns regarding donating to the BSDCG, you
are welcome
to start a thread on the mailing list for an open
discussion. If you
prefer to voice your question privately, email either Dru
Lavigne or
Jim Brown - their email addresses can be found in the
mailing list
archives - or use the contact form with a subject of
"donations".
