When I called in last week the host had not signed on yet
and it told
me that if I was the host to press some number. So I guess
someone
else could play host.
I'm busy during that time so I'll just have to read the
notes.

Jim's on a plane and I have spotty Internet access, which
is how I would
need to call into the dialup system. I will attempt to call
in, but I
might fail. We will see. If people want to chat and
someone else can
take notes in my absence, that's fine. (I'm not sure if
it requires me
to enter the host code or not - if not, the call might not
work at all.)

| Touch Typing program? |

|
2006-07-13 04:34:52 |
Hi All,
Please forgive this question, but I have seen no
mention of one
of the most obvious programs needed for the project.
Is there a program to teach touch typing for the OLPC?
I'd like to learn myself
My daughter has the use of a nice commercial program at her
school (she
is 12 years old and now her skills are now better than mine)
but I have
not found appropriate Open Source program for Linux.
Cheers

I havent heard of any plans to include such a program with
OLPC by
default but there are several such open source software that
can be
potentially used
Tuxtype
http://fedoraproject.org/ext
ras/5/i386/repodata/repoview/tuxtype2-0-1.5.3-1.fc5.html
Ktouch, which is part of KDE Edu. gtypist and emacs-gypist
are open
source but doesnt fit the target audience.

Hi Rahul,
Thanks very much! It's a great program. I hope OLPC
includes something
like it. Touch Typing is a 21st century skill that will be
very useful
for everyone.
Cheers
