Hey Guys

Its been a while since there was any activity here. Whats everyone been up to?

I will start with me... believe it or not after the last group meeting, I was listening to Tim and Paul about ruby and I decided to give it a try....

wow what the hell too me so long, I cant believe what I was missing...

and then I started messing with rails... I fell in love. I haven't had this much passion for something in a while(besides jeran ;) ). I have nothing up public but my box at home probably has 12 rails apps on it.

A few other things are going on... I finally got a great Job here in Bend. I'm on the development team at a great company that produces software for local and state level government agencies. I'm getting married next June 23rd. w00t. Lately I've been questioning my reasons for deciding to use Linux and I've been finding myself switching between windows and Linux on my laptop quite often recently. I feel like I've lost my passion for Linux, and open source in general, I just cant find the spark I had once and I don't know how to get it back. I've been thinking about buying a mac mini & textmate to see if I enjoy that for rails development, but I'm not sure about that either.

What do you guys do to keep you passion? What have you done lately that was exciting?

Till next time...

That's the ussual reaction (except for this one guy who
stopped after a week and said "it's too hard",
but he would have made Ruby less cool if he liked it.)

I haven't really looked at rails much.

What were the reasons? Were they questionable?

Passion? With me it's ethics and logic. unix-like
systems give me the tools I need. Free software is ethical.
And anyway, making stuff work is fun. Commercial software
sucks donkey balls.

Wait.... You got the wood for rails, but you're questioning
Open Source?
Man, you're hankerin' for some spankerin'! You'll be
back. That Windows
crap'll suck the life outta ya.

You're at GLSuite, eh. Hell yes, I can figure that out! I
have 2
questions. Gimmee a job there, and when do I start. But
I'll only start
if I can show up late, and I'm you're boss & can slap
your fingers with a
yardstick for SELLING OUT TO THE MAN. Theere's gunna be a
lot of SLAPPIN!
Dude, you are genetically programmed to sell out to the man
if you're
EVEN thinking of going to Win-donkey-balls. WHY? WHY!
Open Source has
given you so much, and you're kickin it outta the Cadi
& peeing on it like
a worn out ho. I'm glad you're not my pimp. I'd be
getting my gatt.

Married in June? If it's a chick, Good Job! If not, well,
I'll send ya
my Brokeback Mount'in CD's. They were Tim's, but they
are almost
unwatchable from overuse.

And just outta curiosity, what's the backend DB on your
rails stuff? Is
it mySQL? If it's MS-SQL, then you'll need to approach
The Man with hat
in hand for the big sellout. Be a Man, and go to PG. PG!
PG DAMMIT!
NOW! KITTY-MAU!

And where are these app's so that I might begin punishing
them w/ 100
req/min. I have a KILLER APP I wrote in Rails, but the
Image Magick part
of it is wasted. DAMMIT! Tim says BendTels billing comes
first... geez,
some people value their paycheck. What kind of World do we
live in...

Have you done the AJAX goodness in rails? It smokes. I
have written some
beautious code in Ajax in Rails that otherwise would never
grace your
screen. You know it's going to be good cuz Tim Howe will
wretch at the
site of this Ajaxy goodness. BLACK MONOWIDTH TEXT ON WHITE
BACKGROUND is
missing.

I knew once you got some of that Ruby goodness you'd be
hooked. You &
those PHP munkees. I oughta spank them munkees. SPANK THAT
MUNKEE!
