must be superuser to use mount

I'm afraid that I'm missing something obvious, but I
cannot mount sda1 as a user.
my fstab is the same as my Gentoo box (which works)

/dev/sda1 /mnt/flash vfat  noauto,users,umask=000 0 0

I'm using LFS-6.2, maybe a permissions or group issue?
