Tuesday evening while talking with Dan, he offered to
provide hosting
on occasion at the Computers 4 Kids office (4017 1st Ave S).
 I also
had a chat with Shawn yesterday and he offered the same (to
provide
hosting on occasion) but also suggested that we rotate
hosts. I think
this is a great idea. So I want to bring this to the group
to hear
what your thoughts are.

Do we have any other host offers? So far we have Computer
Dimensions,
Computers 4 Kids, and ATM Express.

Any thoughts about doing rotational hosting? I can think of
a pro and
a con: non-consistency might be confusing but I also think
it would
make better utilization of the http://BillingsLUG.org
site by frequent
checking ahead of time and just to see what else is new
there.

One other point I want to bring up with Dan's offer; he
would rather
not host our meeting on a work night and prefers a Friday
(possibly
March 23rd if approved). So if you are a host and since we
have
fairly easily moved to a Tuesday and even postponed a few
times in the
past, I think different nights can work out as long as we
know well in
advance. I suppose contacting me is the simplest way.

Thanks,

I haven't actually been to any of these meetings, but I'm a
computer
professional in Billings (I do web development for CTA
Architects and have
around 10 years experience in this field, including a year
of Quality
Assurance testing). I think rotating hosts doesn't make any
sense. You're
going to have to continuely update your nameserver info with
whoever is
mangaging the site's DNS, and then it takes time to
propogate, plus if you
develop a site with a database you can run into issues
transfering it to
new hosts that may have different software versions. I can
see it easily
turning into a big mess.

We are moving sites around at work right now and it's a huge
task to keep
everything coordinated and straight.

When are the LUG meetings anyway? I haven't worked with
Linux since my
college years, but I learned to program on some nice Sun
System equipment
running UNIX. I had a duel-boot system for a while running
some flavor of
Linux (I can't remember what I picked) but I never used it.
We do have our
own server at home as well with a Bresnan business account,
multiple
battery backups, remote backup, etc.

Anyway, thanks for listening to my 2 cents. I would like to
attend a
meeting if you're still having them!

Okay, if you're talking about meeting site hosting, please
disregard my

Yes that would be silly

We just changed to every third Tuesday of the month at
Computer
Dimensions/MCS Office Products. But as stated in my first
email, I
want to shoot out some ideas of meeting at alternate
locations/hosts.
Sorry for the lingo confusion.

Maybe to help find ideas for the meetings, it would be good
to define the requirements for these meetings. I assume
internet
access would be one. Maybe food and drink, quiet area,
large room, place to put up a projector when needed, etc.

Now that I said that, I have one place in mind, the Billings
Hoilday Inn. Currently that is where my 4x4 club meets and
they
supply everything listed above... I do have to check on the
internet thing though. But I sure they would have that
too.

Anyways, if the LUG is interested I could check things out
and see what it would take to have the LUG meeting at the
hoilday
inn.

Hi All,

I think the COP Shop in the Rim Rock Mall (old Sidney's
location) is
available as a meeting place, however, I don't know if there
is access to
the internet or to a network at all for that matter.

This has probably already been done, but have you checked
out Borders?
They have free wi-fi, and I know they host different groups
in the cafe.
The other night I was there there was a knitting group and a
book
discussion group in the cafe.

How many people typically attend the meetings?
