Origin of "shiny things" quote?

There's a phrase that keeps coming into my head at work
recently...

    "Oooh, look, shiny things!" is not a
procurement policy.

I'm sure this is not original but so far by attempts (er,
Google) to trace
its origins have failed.

Anyone got any ideas?

I haven't come across that actual quote before but I do know
that
Firefly uses the word shiny a lot and talks about shiny
things as those
are Kaylee's favourite things.

Interesting question.  It's a phrase I've used without
thinking about
it.  I always assumed it had something to do with magpies,
which
partly explains this:
